If believing that misogyny exists and is a widespread phenomenon makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If knowing we live in a patriarchy makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If believing male privilege exists makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If not using the words “bitch” and “slut” makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If believing that “joking around” (“get back to the kitchen! lol”) affirms and encourages misogynistic attitudes and damages women’s sense of self-worth makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If thinking that using “pussy” as an insult devalues femininity makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If recognizing objectification of women in the media makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If realizing that having the right to vote and wear pants has not magically given women an equal station in society to men makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If thinking women’s reproductive health is important makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If recognizing the reality of rape culture makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If realizing that society’s idea of a woman’s worth hinges on her sexual attractiveness makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If thinking that it’s acceptable for a woman to go without shaving makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If getting angry when told that the reason I’m a feminist is I’m “on the rag” or “need a good lay” makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If thinking that society’s obsession with women’s appearance is a cause of eating disorders, plastic surgery and tanning addiction, and depression in women makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
If believing that feminism benefits everyone, women and men, gay and straight, trans* and cisgender, and everyone in between makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
And if wanting our society to become a better place makes me a radical feminist, I guess I am one.
Thank you.
